Martin Chadburn was a proud veteran who served for nine years in the British Army with both the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment and the Prince of Wales’s Regiment. Beyond his military service, Martin was a much-loved son and brother to Sharon, Darren and his twin sister Hayley, and an incredible friend to so many people whose lives he touched.
For the last ten years, Martin was at the heart of Hull 4 Heroes. Starting as a volunteer before becoming our Health & Wellbeing Officer, he dedicated himself to supporting veterans and their families across Hull and the East Riding. His commitment to others was unwavering, and he became a trusted and familiar face within the Armed Forces community.
Martin was the life and soul of every room he entered. He loved to dance, laugh and have fun, and his cheeky one-liners had a remarkable way of brightening even the toughest days. He had a unique gift for making people feel valued, welcome and understood.
What truly defined Martin was his selflessness. He could always be counted on, no matter the time of day or night, to help someone in need. During some of the darkest moments in people’s lives, Martin was there with a listening ear, a helping hand and genuine compassion. The support he gave changed countless lives, and his legacy lives on through the many people he helped, encouraged and inspired.
Today, Martin’s memory continues through Martin’s Bench – a place to sit, reflect and connect. If you find yourself sitting next to a stranger on Martin’s Bench, take a moment to say hello. You never know what someone may be going through, and you could be the only person they speak to that day. Just like Martin did every day, a simple conversation could make all the difference and even help change a life.
Martin will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His kindness, humour, friendship and dedication to others will remain part of Hull 4 Heroes forever. ❤️
